Brim is (me) Ed Ryan, Alex Ruiz, Justin Mayfield, and Alex Tobin (previously John Ryan). Though the music can stand for itself, Brim could also be considered an exercise in making something completely different with some of the same ingredients; Ryan, Ruiz, and Mayfield also play in Brooklyn's Sheen Marina, along with Charles Thomas.
The songs on Brim's new record, "Distant Now," penned by myself and recorded and produced by Mayfield, are the product of several years of writing split between New York City and my native Kalamazoo, MI. Centered thematically around moments of in-betweenness and transition, these short, simple arrangements are vignettes of change and connection born from navigating an evolving life.
